The English sidesaddle is built on a "fork" tree with stuffed panel attached at the fork and cantle and not projecting beyond the rear edge of the seat.

MODERN CUT-BACK

ENGLISH CUT-BACK SIDESADDLE

has a slightly dipped to level seat desirable for modern hunt, saddle seat and dressage posture. It is styled for stability, ease of posting, and security over fences.

A cut-back sidesaddle is reinforced and suitable for jumping. It has a balance assembly and breakaway or safety stirrup. It may be of all leather, or leather and suede, with pommels of narrow, medium or extended width, and an underside of leather, linen, or serge.

BASIC CUT-BACK

ENGLISH PLEASURE SIDESADDLE

is made on the fork tree, but without cut-back, reinforced tree, or heavy-duty construction, so is unsuitable for hunt use or jumping. The seat is moderately dipped and decorative embroidery is frequently featured on the leather or suede seat, safe and pommels. The English Pleasure saddle may be of the two or three pommel style, but leaping pommel and balance assembly are required, with safety stirrup recommended. The underside is of leather or fabric, with laced-on panels preferred. Of conservative off-side silhouette.
